In many East Asian cultures, there's a normalized tendency to openly judge people based on their appearances, even within family circles. From as young as 13, I've encountered remarks from relatives like "you may need plastic surgery" or "your nose is too wide," contributing to my struggle with facial dysmorphia. Additionally, attending schools with predominantly white student bodies led me to resent my Korean features, as they didn't align with the Eurocentric beauty standard prevalent in my surroundings. Reflecting on this, I shed light on the unrealistic beauty standards imposed on women. Using the pomegranate as a symbol of femininity, the fruit represents the womb, tarnished by societal criticism—whether from my culture or environment. Similarly, the symbolism of wine represents the allure of beauty, yet excessive indulgence, like poison, can be harmful. The garment's expansive silhouette embodies the constant imposition of beauty standards on women, while the colors red and black signify the conflicting emotions of love and anger towards societal beauty ideals and the negative feelings associated with facial dysmorphia.
